Measuring the ROI of an EAP
New ROI Dashboard Allows Employers, Consultants and Brokers to Measure the Financial Impact of an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
December 16, 2019. Chicago, IL. Employee assistance programs, also known as EAPs, enhance organizational effectiveness by identifying and removing obstacles to productivity and also by resolving a participant's personal and work-related concerns. In addition, certain EAP models reduce direct medical costs through effective treatment and advocacy-driven guidance for members with mental health or substance abuse issues.
For most organizations that offer an EAP, the financial impact of the program is significantly greater than the cost of sponsoring it. As a result, a positive return on investment (ROI) is a reasonable expectation, especially for employers with a well-utilized program. Unfortunately, most EAP providers do not offer an ROI statement to their current or prospective clients -- and those that do are typically not using a methodology based on research and industry-specific best practices.
With this in mind, CuraLinc Healthcare is proud to announce the release of a new EAP ROI Dashboard, located at www.eaproi.com. The Dashboard is based on a combination of proprietary outcomes, current research and a leading conceptual model developed by Dr. Mark Attridge. Dr. Attridge is an independent consultant who has been conducting research studies and trainings on the ROI for workplace mental health services to EAP and benefits professionals for over 25 years.
The updated ROI Dashboard for CuraLinc emphasizes three pillars for a client's financial return on their investment.
Health Care Costs. This includes savings from would-be outpatient claims that were resolved within the EAP, as well as from high-risk cases involving depression and substance abuse.
Human Capital Costs. This pillar reflects a reduction of lost productivity time (LPT) from lower absenteeism and presenteeism rates, as well as the avoidance of turnover for a small percentage of high-risk employees who used the program.
Organizational Costs. This area of return recognizes the value to the business for all non-counseling elements of the EAP, including educational and preventive services provided by the program to the organizational leadership, managers and employees at the worksite.
For CuraLinc's existing clients, the Dashboard is a key element of every EAP report and will be powered by client-specific utilization data. For prospective clients, the Dashboard is available as a forward-looking predictive model. The utility of this tool will be reviewed in the December edition of 'Coffee with CuraLinc', a 15-minute webinar series hosted by CuraLinc Healthcare. To register, visit www.coffeewithcuralinc.com.
